New CASE tool turns Natural English into Object Models

Melbourne, FL (PRWEB) February 2, 2004 --Leap Systems has just released an advanced requirements engineering CASE tool that produces object-oriented models directly from a system requirements repository or specification (SRS). By translating English into logical models for software development, Leap SE achieves RAD from the source, dramatically shortening the systems analysis phase of software projects.
Project managers can reduce their systems engineering staffing needs with Leap SE, while promoting the development of quality requirements. Twenty-one templates and a Requirement Builder are provided for fast and flexible composition. Every time a new requirement is saved, Leap SEs object model database is updated to reflect the new entities, relationships, attributes and methods. From this database, a directory of header files can be generated at any time to give software engineering a much-needed head start on design. Moreover, its just one small step to importing these header files into a reverse-engineering CASE tool to quickly produce a host of class diagrams.
The importance of crafting quality requirements cannot be overstated. As Karl Wiegers writes in Software Testing and Quality Engineering magazine: The path to quality software begins with excellent requirements. Slighting the processes of requirements development and management is a common cause of software project frustration and failure." (January/February 2000)
Requirements engineering during the systems analysis phase is so critical, and yet remains the weak link of so many software development projects. Several products available today are great for configuration management, and can certainly help organize and track system requirements, but they are not designed to accelerate the analysis process. They are not RAD tools.
Firmly rooted in UML, Leap SE uses a unique methodology called Deterministic Phraseology to:
- Produce models without any additional effort beyond entering requirements
- Expose inconsistencies and ambiguity among system requirements
- Enforce the creation of build-able and testable requirements for sell-off
Features include:
- Instant object model generation from SRS
- Model growth with every saved requirement
- 21 templates for quick and easy composition
- Builder for creating complex requirements
- Integrated queries and template examples
- A complete repository for system specifications
Leap SE provides a way to leap over" a substantial part of the systems engineering effort so critical to the execution of any software development project. By translating the written word into a cohesive set of classes, attributes, methods, relationships, and inheritance hierarchies, Leap SE enables software teams to immediately begin high-level design.
