A guide to finding the best telecommunication rate

With recent deregulation in the industry, what is the best way to get the best price for your communications? This lays it out for you.

(PRWEB) February 3, 2004 --With all the different rate plans out there, as well all the different schemes the phone companies employ in order to earn your business, its no wonder why more consumers overpay or even worse are confused. Most people dont know that the telecommunications industry is completely deregulated and therefore there is competition for even the simplest of services. Competition breeds better prices for the consumers and businesses that rely on communication services. Throughout this article we will help you find the rate that best suits your needs. The best way to use this report is to read it in its entirety then go back and follow the steps.

The first step is you will want to find out how much your local carrier charges for tone service. Tone service is just your basic dial tone without any of the special features. This should be fairly easy to find and should be toward the top of the bill.

The second step is to get the last three months of phone bills. Look over the summary page of the phone bills. Add up all the long distance charges on each bill separating the long distance by state-to-state, domestic and international, and then average out the figures. Next you will want to know what your long distance rate is for the three different long distance charges. Be cautious of times of day and day of week as this often changes the rate that you pay.

The third step is to find out what services you use and pay for and what services you have purchased and dont use. Phone companies will often offer free trials to try out a service for free and then after the free time is up start charging for that service. Most customers dont even realize it because it is such a small price. Of the services that you do want to keep you will want to find out what you are paying for that service.

With these facts you can now start looking for a cheaper price without compromising the quality that you have come to expect from your phone service. Make sure that when contacting these companies you understand all the terms and conditions of signing up with service from them, i.e.. Contracts, switching fees, times of day free minutes or rates are available. You may also want to check out there rating with the Public Utilities Commission and the Better Business Bureau to make sure they dont have outstanding complaints.
