Tests Show Promise For Technology In Movement Disorder Treatment

Neuro Acoustic Research Corp (NARC), utilizing the same theoretical premise and operational mechanisms as those employed in their neuro-pathways recovery system, has begun preliminary tests to investigate the potential for palliative applications of their soundscape technology in the movement disorder arena. Previous successful Electroencephalogram (EEG) testing of the mechanisms being used lead to the way for these investigations.

Delray Beach, FL (PRWEB) February 3, 2004 --Neuro Acoustic Research Corp (NARC), utilizing the same theoretical premise and operational mechanisms as those employed in their neuro-pathways recovery system, has begun preliminary tests to investigate the potential for palliative applications of their soundscape technology in the movement disorder arena. Previous successful Electroencephalogram (EEG) testing of the mechanisms being used lead to the way for these investigations.

The subject being referenced here is a 64-year-old male who has suffered with dystonia for over 14 years, and has -- in his own words: ... received every kind of treatment imaginable." Including, for the past 5 years, a regimen of multiple Botox injections every 3 months -- in an effort to mitigate his pain and diminish the involuntary muscular contractions.

The most exceptional occurrence, with this individual, was our being able to witness such a distinct and marked decrease in electrical activity (...in the muscles being tested) on the monitor of the electromyography (EMG) system. And to watch it happen almost immediately upon the sounds being introduced to the subject"... said Dr. Neil Spielholz, Director of Research at Neuro Acoustic Research Corp. ... that kind of response is quite unusual and, if I hadnt seen it myself, Im sure I would not have believed it. To imagine any kind of response, yet alone, what we saw -- in such a short period of time, is remarkable."

Spasmodic torticollis, or cervical dystonia is a particular type of focal dystonia that affects the muscles of the neck. It can present itself in several different forms: torticollis, laterocollis, anterocollis and retrocollis; however, in this situation, its presentation is in multiple forms. Needless to say, were quite excited about what took place... and certainly encouraged. However, we are remaining cautious in our enthusiasm, as we move forward," added Dr. Bob Sewak, President of Neuro Acoustic Corp. The lessons we learned from our work in substance abuse and relapse prevention have not been forgotten. We know there is a long road ahead -- filled with bumps and twists and turns; however, if we are able to help just a little bit of help and allow people to live their life just a little bit better... well then, the trip is definitely worth taking."
