Born in Romania and raised in Italy, Erika Schwartz combines a diverse cultural background, fluency in five languages, and American medical credentials. She graduated from New York University with a full academic scholarship and received her MD degree Cum Laude. Her post-graduate training in Internal Medicine and Critical Care was completed at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn. She was a member of the prestigious honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha, from SUNY-Downstate, where she currently serves on the Board of Managers. Following her training, she was hired by Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, NY, becoming the first woman and the youngest person to run the University Hospital Trauma Center. Later, she brought the first MRI and free-standing radiologic facility to Westchester County, and held the responsibility of educating both patients and physicians in the use of MRIs.
Continuing on the path of patient education, Dr. Schwartz became a consummate clinician and passionate patient advocate, with more than 50,000 patients cared for. She now provides educational and clinical services nationally through television, radio, and print. Montefiore Medical Center, recognizing her talent for reaching people, sponsored and aired a four year television program produced and hosted by Dr.Schwartz called Health Horizons. It was the first program in the greater Metropolitan area directed at bridging the information gap between physicians and patients.
Erika Schwartz is a firm believer in giving both the doctor and patient the tools to make informed treatment decisions, and has founded an organization to do just that.
