Station Family Fund issues desperate cry for assistance

As one year anniversary looms many still in dire need of assistance.

(PRWEB) February 4, 2004 --Eight months ago, the Station Family Fund
(SFF) was founded by survivors and family members affected by
the Station nightclub fire of February 20, 2003. The SFF is
an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, which received
approval from the IRS on November 4, to operate as a 501(c) (3)
charitable organization. On that tragic night 100 people
died, over 200 people were injured, and over 60 children lost
at least one parent. The effects of that night still linger.
It is our goal to address the needs and to alleviate the
effects that tragic night has left on its victims.

The common belief is that the ongoing needs of this community
are being met - this is just not the case. While the Rhode
Island Foundation has changed its direction to long term"
needs, there are so many survivors in need of day-to-day
assistance that our fundraising efforts must be continuous
just to keep up! In the eight months of our existence, the
SFF has raised and distributed over $190,000.00 to pay rents
and mortgages, utility bills, car payments, food and
clothing - all the basics that any TDI and SSI cant even
come close to covering. A few of the victims that sustained injuries were
eligible for temporary disability insurance, as a resource for a few weeks or months.
Most of the injured have not qualified to receive SSI (only 14 have been qualified). With
any litigation or settlement being 5-10 years from conclusion, this community
relies on the SFF to live day-to- day and month-to-month.

We need your help!!
While the mainstream music community has been inexplicably
unresponsive, our local music community has been phenomenal.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the musicians, radio support and live music
venues for their support over the last year.
Over the next few months a series of music shows will take
place in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire to
support the Station Family Fund. To organize an event or to
donate a venue or talents please visit our site
www.stationfamilyfund.org and click on How Can I Help".
As we move towards the first anniversary of the largest
tragedy in music history the Station Family Fund will not
formally be organizing any memorial or remembrance service.
We do support whole- heartedly any such service. The Station
Family Fund does ask all live music venues, musicians
performing, and radio stations at 11:05 PM on February 20,
2004 to participate in a moment of remembrance to honor those
who perished one year ago.
