Atlanta, Ga (PRWEB) February 4, 2004 --Mel Gibsons much talked about film, The Passion of the Christ" has received a thumbs up from leading African American pastors. Dr. Creflo A. Combined, these urban pastors have congregations totaling over 120,000 people and television broadcasts that reach over one billion households worldwide. With the film slated to premiere on February 25, 2004 on over 2,000 screens across the nation, the support from these leaders is great news for Mel Gibsons production company, Icon Productions.
After viewing the film at a private screening, Dr. Creflo Dollar who pastors the 23,000-member World Changers Church International in Atlanta, Georgia said, this is one of the most significant works that Hollywood has ever produced." Bishop TD Jakes, who in 2001 was featured on the cover of Time Magazine and named Americas Best Preacher" so strongly supports the film, his ministry plans to help spread the word about it to its 28,000 members as quickly as possible. Urban support for the film was also in the form of private VIP screenings held at Crenshaw Christian Center in Los Angeles pastored by Dr. Fredrick K.C. Price and New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, pastored by Bishop Eddie Long.
Icon recognized the significant role religion plays within the urban community and tapped into the expertise of public relations firm A. Larry Ross Communications of Dallas, Texas to help bridge the racial lines with the films message.
