Broadband-similar Performance Becomes Available for Everyone
Is "emulated-broadband" the only way to surf with dial-up in this new Internet age? We take a look at this new promising alternative to conventional high-speed Internet.
(PRWEB) February 4, 2004 -- Recently, several programs have hit the market which aim to emulate broadband (e.g. DSL, cable or satellite Internet connections) speeds for dial-up users at a fraction of the cost. Unlike their hardware counterparts, installation is a breeze and does not require any house visits. All Internet users need to do in order to take advantage of this new generation of performance software is simply download and install.
Among the most highly acclaimed programs in this new category are Propel and 2003 FasterInternet PRO. Propel has already made agreements with many ISPs in several countries, including several in the Middle East, in order to provide a competitive edge to select ISPs' dial-up packages. FasterInternet PRO isn't nearly as widely spread as Propel, but it is a newer technology and does offer more features at a lower cost. It will be interesting to see if this underdog will manage to come out on top with its richer feature set.
Broadband users don't look away yet -- some of these programs don't limit their market to just users with lower-end internet connections, but have gone beyond to offer a significant speed boost even to those who have made the leap to broadband. A few apps, such as FasterInternet PRO, offer a modem optimization wizard, which will have you downloading files and MP3s up to 150% faster! Not to mention that the program also promises to block pop-ups, ads and SPAM.
So how do these programs do it? In the cases of Propel and FasterInternet PRO, web pages are compressed and common image formats are optimized to dramatically reduce their file sizes. In essence, these programs aren't just optimizing your computer... they are silently optimizing the Internet itself!
In truth, the performance benefits of these applications are unlikely to enable you to download MP3s and the latest Jennifer Lopez music video at broadband speeds if you are still stuck with dial-up. The benefit -- anywhere up to a 700% performance increase -- is still largely limited to web browsing. This is perhaps the only factor which truly separates the performance of so-called "emulated-broadband" from the real deal. However, with the lower prices, these services offer a competitive alternative.
FasterInternet PRO and Propel fill in the gaps where true broadband connections are either not yet available or unaffordable. In this way, "emulated-broadband" can market to an audience which authentic high-speed Internet has yet to reach.
If you are still using dial-up or have already made the leap but want to squeeze out those last few drops of speed, then you will definitely want to check-out these killer apps.
