Improv Survivor Out-Play, Out-Last ... Out-Improvise!

The Un-Scripted Theater Company presents an all-new improvised format modeled after the CBS hit series.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 5, 2004 --The Un-Scripted Theater Company, a year-old improvisational theater company based in San Francisco, kicks off its second season with a brand new format based on a well-known pop-culture icon: Survivor.

As the reality show Survivor begins its eighth installment on CBS, The Un-Scripted Theater Company brings the cut-throat action to the improv arena. Six improvisors will take the stage at the beginning of the night, but when the curtain falls two hours later, only one will remain the sole improv survivor and earn the 10 million cash prize. Best of all, the audience is the Tribal Council, rewarding their favorites throughout the night, while voting off" the improvisors who do not earn their favor.

This show is all about what the audience wants to see. The audience rewards the actors they like the best. They shape the show they want," explains director and format co-creator Brian McBride. If the improvisors dont perform the way the audience wants them to perform, theyre thrown out of the show!"

Throughout the show, audience input and suggestions will shape how the show unfolds. This just does not happen in traditional, scripted theater," adds director and co-creator Christian Utzman. When the players have to please the audience in order to survive to the end of the night, the audience definitely wins!"

This show also plays to the backlash from televisions over-saturation of reality shows. Fans of CBSs Survivor will enjoy the improv version, with its nods to the format of the original show, but even those who hate TV can enjoy the live theater aspect of the show. After all, what better antidote to the flood of reality television programming than to get people out of the house and into the theater?

Improv Survivor will be performed on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm at the Temescal Arts Center in Oakland. The show is directed by Brian McBride and Christian Utzman, with music by David Norfleet. The cast includes improvisors from all over the San Francisco Bay Area, including: Dave Dyson, Glenn Etter, Alan Goy, Jennifer Justice, Brian McBride, Tara McDonough, Chris Sams, Susan Snyder, Christian Utzman, and Cort Worthington. The Un-Scripted Theater Company was founded in 2002, and is dedicated to expanding the art and craft of improvisational theater. Improv Survivor opens its second season, which will also include new formats Three and The Small-Town Holiday Musical, and return hits Improvised Bawdy Shakespeare, Fear, and The Short and the Long of It.
