Urban Fashion is bringing voter registration to the forefront. On February 25th, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Thomas & Mack Center, the Urban Fashion Awards Show acts as a host for the leading struggle in America...the Urban Vote.
The Urban Fashion Awards Show was established to bring recognition and accolades to the Urban Fashion Community. Prior to this event, there was no means of honoring those who have made the most impact on the multi-billion dollar fashion industry. Urban Fashion is leading in the fashion category for sales, but it is also the least recognized. That is until now. This year the Urban Fashion Awards Show has teamed up with the Hip Hop Team Vote to bring much-needed attention to another cause-voting registration in the Urban Community.
Hip Hop Team Vote, launched by the Hip Hop Summit Action Network, aims to register 2 million voters aged 18 to 30 by the November 2nd U.S. Presidential Election, and 20 million voters over the next five years. Hip Hop guru Russell Simmons launched the Hip Hop Summit Action Network with civil rights activist Benjamin Chavis in 2001, hoping to use the music's cultural relevance to promote education advocacy and to focus on issues concerning at-risk youth. The Hip Hop Team Vote is supported by some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including P. Diddy, Queen Latifah, and Jay-Z.
Together, the Urban Fashion and Hip Hop music worlds can make a difference.
