C. Virgina Fields, Manhattan Borough President meets Contestants of Miss Five Boroughs Scholarship Pageant on Thursday, February 12th at 4:00p.m. at her Manhattan office located at 1 Centre Street on the 19th Floor in New York City.

(PRWEB) February 7, 2004 --The Miss Five Boroughs Scholarship Pageant, now in its 5th year as an Official Preliminary to the Miss New York State and Miss America Program serves along with The Miss America Organization as the largest scholarship resources for women. The local, state and national competitions award over $45 million to participants towards scholarships making it the largest source of scholarship for women in the world.

Angel Ortiz, Executive Director of the Miss Five Boroughs Organization said, "Our goal is to continue the path of assisting young women in achieving their educational and career endeavors through the scholarship we offer annually."

On Thursday, February 12, 2004, C. Virgina Fields, Manhattan Borough President will recognize 20 contestants including reigning Miss Five Boroughs, Karmen Kluge, who graduated from New York University with a degree in Classical Vocal Performance and Anthropology will also be on hand to wish the contestants well.

On Saturday, March 6, 2004 Miss Five Boroughs Scholarship Organization proudly presents, Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend"...the crowning of Miss Five Boroughs 2004, beginning at 7:00p.m. at the Martin Luther King High School Auditorium located at 122 Amsterdam Avenue between 65th & 66th Streets in NYC.

20 Local area college students will compete for the coveted title of Miss Five Boroughs and will have an opportunity to represent their community and borough at the 2004 Miss New York State Finals, held in Watertown, NY annually. The winner of Miss New York State will join other states representative in Atlantic City, NJ for the 84th Anniversary of Miss America. Faith Jenkins, First Runner to Miss America 2001 and Jessica Lynch, Miss New York 2003 will host the 5th Anniversary of Miss Five Boroughs Scholarship Pageant.

Special appearance by The Prince of Latin Dance, Tito Puente Jr., Debbye Turner, Miss America 1991, Kate Shindle, Miss America 1998, Tiffany Walker, Miss New York 2002, Presidential Candidate, Rev. Al Sharpton, Motivational Speaker, Kathy Sharpton, Adolfo Carrion Jr., Bronx Borough President and many more are schedule to attend.

On a local level here in New York City, the Miss Five Boroughs Scholarship Organization hopes to reach similar goals in providing women the opportunity to earn scholarship awards to fund their education. In addition to scholarship awards, the participants are to build a strong foundation to promote the social issues that are important to them as well as reaching out to their communities through opportunities in community service.
