NARTH President Speaks Out On Gay Marriage Decision In Massachusetts
The president of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality has issued a statement on his concerns over the gay marriage decision in Massachusetts.
Encino, CA (PRWEB) February 8, 2004 --Dr. Joseph Nicolosi, the president of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality issued a statement today on the decision of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to legalize same-sex marriage in that state.
The court issued a clarifying ruling on its November 2003, decision on February 3rd. In it, the court stated that "civil unions" would not be an acceptable substitute for gay marriage in that state.
Dr. Nicolosi observed: "It's a sad day when a court fails to recognize that gender has profound implications for our roles within the family and in society. Two mothers or two fathers can never be equivalent to a mother and a father. Two men or two women may, indeed, feel love for each other--but no matter how strong their attachment, that relationship can never be as nurturing for children, or as good for society as a whole, as the proven, centuries-old social building block of the traditional mother/father family."
Dr. Nicolosi also notes that the current research on how children fare in homosexual families is disturbing and will be troublesome for future children who may be reared in gay households.
"A study published by two University of Southern California researchers in 2002, shows that both boys and girls raised in gay households tend to be gender non-conforming," said Nicolosi. "Boys from lesbian homes were more feminine, girls were more masculine and more sexually promiscuous. Both boys and girls raised in gay homes were more likely to experiment with homosexual behaviors than their heterosexual counterparts."
NARTH has summarized the findings of this study in "Gay Parenting Does Affect Children Differently, Study Finds." Other resources on gay parenting are available on NARTH's web site: Parenting and Family Issues: http://www.narth.com.
Dr. Nicolosi and other NARTH representatives are available for press interviews.
