Native American Wood Flute music is changing. A new CD, Canyon People", illustrates how the production of New Age instrumental albums for this traditional instrument is evolving.
The Legend of the Canyon People" from LazyCats Records features Bobby Jimenez playing five-hole cedar wood flute and Rob Wallace on keyboards. The duo tell the mythical Legend of the Canyon People in music. This is the debut CD for Bobby Jimenez, Rob Wallace is a veteran Film, Television, and Grammy nominated recording artist and executive producer at LazyCats Records.
(PRWEB) February 9, 2004 --Artists like R.C. Nakai have pioneered American Indian wood flute music for decades. His first music releases were mostly solo flute. He is the role model for the artistic evolution of cedar wood flute music. Today, a variety of musical categories like rock rap, and jazz produce distinctive platforms for the five-hole cedar wood flute. Teaming up a flute player with a symphony orchestra or even a jazz quartet, reggae band, or string ensemble is not unusual.
The newest contribution to the evolution of the music of the cedar wood flute is the team of Bobby Jimenez and composer/keyboardist Rob Wallace. Together they have produced a new sound that LazyCats Records calls: Native American New Age music with a hint of jazz, classical, and ambient overtones." Try to find that bin at your local music store.
Included in The Legend of the Canyon People" are sounds of nature and keyboard instruments that are layered in such a way to produce rich musical soundscapes for the flute. Bobby Jimenez and Rob Wallace claim that their first collaborative CD is a groundbreaking step forward in Native American New Age music. Wallace is known in the Native American New Age music arena for his two releases from Canyon Records, Phoenix, AZ., entitled White Buffalo," and MAZE" where he collaborated with acclaimed flutist Robert Tree Cody.
Rob says. Producing instrumental music for the traditional wood flute is a challenge because the flute has its own musical scale that it is not do, re, mi, etc. I am grateful that I am able to find a spiritual place that allows me to create music for this unique ancient instrument. Working with Bobby is a joy because we seem to read each others minds when we record or compose." The duo will begin live performances in March.
The running time of the CD, Canyon People," is over an hour: 68:51. The CD has 16 tracks which illustrate the mythical Legend of the Canyon people. The short version of the legend goes...
Many years ago, there were vast numbers of people that lived on the bottom of a big canyon on Turtle Island. The people were the same in many ways but different in many more ways. Some were happy living in the Canyon and prospered by hunting and farming. They raised healthy children, surrounded their families with love, and taught a deep respect for nature and Father Sky and Mother Earth.
There were those in the same Canyon who were unhappy with their destiny, angry with their leaders, disappointed in their families and children. It was clear to the elders that wisdom, happiness, love, respect, joy, tragedy, illness, was visited on some and not others even though they were all the same people.
It became clear to the elders that no matter where you lived, what color your skin, what gifts you may or may not have, the fact remained that we are ALL Canyon People.
Bobby and Rob are nearly finished with their next CD, Coyote." It is a musical tribute to the characteristics of an animal that has many friends and foes. Rob said, It is our hope to refine and explore new musical paths established on 'Canyon People and take 'Coyote to the next level of the evolution of the traditional cedar wood flute."
