TORONTO, CANADA (PRWEB) February 9, 2004 -- Critics of talk radio complain about bias as if they are somehow immune from human foibles. They fail to realize the virtue of what is called "right-wing radio" is in its frank admission of beliefs, a rarity in mainstream media that slants news coverage to the left while pretending to be objective.
Tovia Singer is a new voice in both radio and television who will be reaching the North American audience in 2004. He is tailor-made for the critics because they will dismiss him as a partisan Zionist right out of the gate. Already a popular voice on Israel National Radio he has much to say to a larger audience. He is partisan, all right, but he is also passionately fair and ready to listen to those with whom he disagrees.
Some practitioners of talk radio refuse to listen to the opposition and savagely cut off debate prematurely. They are every bit as annoying as smug politically correct commentators who pretend to be open-minded and non-judgmental about all points of view so long as patriotism doesn't rear its ugly head.
Rabbi Tovia Singer knows what he thinks. He sticks to his guns. But he is also fundamentally a libertarian unafraid of opposing views. Best of all, he understands that true diversity of opinions in Israel, a far cry from defenders of the Jewish State who fear that any breakdown in solidarity is a sign of weakness.
One example of the rabbi's approach would be broadcasts in 2003 defending Sharon's proposal for a security wall. This writer was opposed to the wall until encountering the case made by Singer. False analogies with the Berlin Wall evaporated -- a security wall is not the same as a prison wall. East Germany was a prison. People escaped to West Germany because they wanted to live in West Germany.
The Israeli Wall is to keep Palestinians from entering Israel for purposes of mayhem. It will also limit Israeli incursions into the Palestinian Authority.
Settlements have been abandoned which Sharon insists will improve the military situation for purposes of defense -- but the Palestinian Authority can argue the dismantling of these settlements is a concession of land. Both sides are correct! Not only will the wall reduce Jewish casualties but also Arab casualties.
If Americans only listen to mainstream media they will assume the wall is a symbol of tyranny. Singer helps us understand that the wall can save lives.
America needs to listen to this rabbi. Hopefully, he will be a major asset to the national conversation.
