The Pajama Program to Honor Meredith Vieira, the Emmy Winning Journalist, and Kitty Carlisle Hart, the Actress and Philantropist, at 2004 Awards Luncheon

The Pajama Program, a national children's charity, announces it annual award winners. The honors will be presented on April 30 at The Pierre Hotel in New York City.

NEW YORK CITY (PRWEB) February 13, 2004 ---The Pajama Program, a not-for-profit national childrens charity that donates new and unused pajamas and books to needy and abused children, today announced that Meredith Vieira, the Emmy winning journalist and host of ABC-TVs The View," is its Mother of the Year." The award will be presented at the Pajama Programs 2004 Awards Luncheon on April 30th at New Yorks Pierre Hotel.

The Program is also honoring Kitty Carlisle Hart, the actress and philanthropist, as its Woman of the Year" and Joni Lysett Nelson, the chairman and chief executive officer of The Sabatier Group, a global security think tank and consulting firm, with a humanitarian award.

Each of these individuals has been selfless in their efforts to create a better environment, one that is filled with love and hope, for children living through extremely difficult circumstances," says Genevieve Piturro, executive director, the Pajama Program. They echo the Pajama Programs mission, which is to provide an atmosphere of warmth and love for youngsters when they are at their most vulnerable. We are delighted to recognize such outstanding women."

The Pajama Programs 2004 Awards Luncheon will benefit New Yorkers for Children, the non-profit organization that supports the New York City Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) and the New Haven Home Recovery, Inc, which provides emergency housing and HIV support services to women and children. Proceeds from the event will be earmarked to buy new pajamas for ACSs Childrens Center, a specially designed landmark building that provides temporary housing for children entering the citys foster care system, and for New Haven Home Recoverys crisis shelters.

Countess Nubia Braschi, Francesca Braschi-Gumina, Dylan Lauren, Peter Marino, Tina Radziwill, and Ivana Trump are honorary co-chairs. Paula Moynahan, M.D. is the host.

The Pajama Program is a New York City-based 501 (c)(3)not-for-profit organization. It is dedicated to providing new and unused pajamas and books to needy children, from newborns to age 17, many of whom are without families and/or permanent homes. The Pajama Program identifies institutions where youngsters are living temporarily and, in conjunction with the facility, sends sleepwear and reading material for its residents. Homeless shelters, foster care facilities, group homes and hospitals throughout the country receive Pajama Program donations.
