Al Majaz successfully launches the AlJazeera Mobile Service worldwide using Swapcom technology
Swapcom supplied its cutting-edge content delivery platform 'Multimedia Mobile Information Portal to Al Majaz for the launch of the AlJazeera Mobile service.
Lyon-France/Doha-Qatar (PRWEB) February 14, 2004--Al Majaz Telecom Technology, a leading Qatari company in the field of wireless technology, has selected Frances Swapcom, renowned provider of mobile software systems, for the deployment of the
Al Jazeera Mobile News Service. This service enables mobile users all around the world to receive breaking news updates directly on their phone using SMS and soon MMS, WAP, vocal messages etc.
Mobile information delivery for end-users is proving one of the most popular mobile value added services everywhere in the world. Users enjoy receiving regular news updates from their chosen service (PUSH), or can request information directly from their mobile, as and when they want it (PULL), and are willing to pay for it. In fact, wireless information services revenues are expected to grow to $1.5 billion in 2005 and up to $7.2 billion by 2008 (Alexander Resources).
However, to reach these revenues, mobile service providers and operators must first overcome some significant obstacles. They include the need for improved billing models for rapid deployment of new services, and for frequent content updates and distribution using multiple bearers. Direct connection to mobile networks for content delivery and billing is also key for maximizing revenues and minimizing costs.
To overcome these obstacles, Al Majaz Telecom has selected Swapcom Multimedia Mobile Information Portal (MMIP), an all-in-one alerting and information delivery platform which is directly plugged onto mobile networks. Thanks to MMIP, and with additional support through Multimedia Mobile Gateway (MMG),Al Majaz can format and distribute in a matter of seconds the same content (including pictures, sounds and soon videos) for distribution to thousands of devices using all available notification Medias. Users are billed directly on their phone bills in partner networks, or on their credit card elsewhere.
Thanks to this platform, AlJazeera audience is now able to access AlJazeera Mobile News anytime, anywhere. They can receive the latest Breaking News, or thematic news (politics, finance, sports) in both English and Arabic. They can define personal filters on the content; define how and where they want to receive it at different hours of the day.
To illustrate this success, since its commercial launch in October 2003, AlJazeera Mobile encounters a growing success with an average monthly increase of 20%.
Swapcoms solution enables us to distribute AlJazeera premium contents using SMS, MMS, WAP and soon vocal messages. With MMIP, we can directly connect to mobile networks, define specific billing models for each operator, and format multimedia contents as and when we need to. This is key for always distributing the latest up-to-the-minute news content", said Mr. Mohammed Al Obaidly, CEO Al Majaz.
Swapcom and Al Majaz Telecom have combined their advanced technologies for the roll out of the AlJazeera Mobile Services. It is significant for Swapcom to be the first to provide such multimedia platform that links the TV and mobile worlds" commented Mr. Jean-Marc Truong, CEO Swapcom.
Swapcom Multimedia Mobile Information Portal will be officially presented at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France (Hall 3, booth H23).
