Russell Simmons named Recipient for The 2004 Urban Fashion Awards Show "Lifetime Achievement Award"

Russell Simmons achievements have been recognized by his peers and they have bestowed upon him the Urban Fashion "Lifetime Achievement Award.

Created by UFAS Executive Producer Tonya Payton, the goal of the UFAS is to confer among the leaders in the Urban Fashion Industry the respect and accolades they so richly deserve.

Mr. Simmons was honored at the First Urban Fashion Awards Show in 2002 with the Humanitarian Award. Mr. Simmons spends a great deal time and energy working for social, political and philanthropic causes, pushing Hip Hop to new plateaus of power and relevance. In 1995, he, along with his brothers Danny and Joseph Simmons (Rev. Run of Run DMC), founded Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. The organization provides disadvantaged urban youth with exposure and access to the arts, as well as offering exhibition opportunities to underrepresented artists and artists of color. Following the historic Hip Hop Summit Mr. Simmons organized in 2001, he founded the Hip Hop Summit Action Network to harness the cultural relevance of Hip-Hop music as a catalyst for education advocacy and other societal concerns fundamental to the well being of at-risk youth throughout the United States. Among the organizations major initiatives is Team Vote, a massive effort to register at least two million new voters by the 2004 Presidential election. Mr. Simmons and his wife, Kimora Lee, have two daughters, Ming Lee and Aoki Lee.
