(PRWEB) February 15, 2004 --Stocks market indices declined on Thursday, February 12, 2004. The blue chips Dow Jones industrial average went down 43.63 points (0.41%), to 10,694.07. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 5.65 points (0.49%), to 1,152.11. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index lost 16.06 points (0.77%), to 2,073.60.

"People are looking at a mixed picture on the economic front, which is why you're seeing some selling this morning," said Jack Caffrey, equities strategist at J.P. Morgan Private Bank. "Once the Fed gets back on the television set, you'll find people keying off of that instead."

Trading was active. About 1.45 billion shares changed hands on the New York Stock Exchange and about 1.95 billion shares were traded on Nasdaq.

The most active companies were SONS (-1.30), Sun Microsystems (+0.03), SIRI (+0.10), Cisco Systems (-0.19), CMCSK (-0.95), Lucent tech (+0.02), AWE (+0.17), Nortel networks (+0.08), DIS (+0.40).
