Night of Disasters at "Gigantic Art Space."

Generator Sound Art Archive Stolen! Lamination Rituals Suspended Because of Melted Candy!

(PRWEB) February 15, 2004 --At the jam packed opening for Gen.R.8 art show at Gigantic Art Space Friday, February 6, a collection of recordings produced by Generator Sound Art Inc was stolen. The archive includes original, one-of-a-kind handmade packages of CDs and artwork by sound artists connected to the legendary Generator Sound Art Gallery. This was the first time the Generator Sound Art archive had been shown in New York City.

Among the stolen sound art packages were: a live recording by the Haters from 1991, three portable sound installations, a four-CD boxed concert by legendary German composer Conrad Schnitzler, Delivery System No.1 by Gregory Whitehead, the final concert of Arcane Device, Zbniewwig Karkoskis first concert in the USA, Kurt Buttigiegs Sun Recordings from Malta, Daniel Menchies Black Wing, and "Outer Ear/Inner Eye" an audio-only CD-ROM by Gen Ken which included a handmade blindfold.

The archive was stolen while Gen Ken Montgomery, founder of Generator Sound Art, was performing his Lamination Ritual: Once Lamination Ritual began I was stuck behind the laminator assisting a long line of visitors who wanted to hear first hand what the sound of a Bugle being laminated was like. At the end of the night I went to check on the display of recordings from the Generator Archive and saw that the Plexiglas covering them had been lifted and all but a few of the packages were gone."

Anyone with any information regarding the theft is urged to contact Ken Montgomery at genken@generatorsoundart.org to restore this historic archive to its rightful owners.

Also during the Lamination Ritual at Gigantic Artspace Friday night, a request to laminate hard candy ended up breaking the lamination machine which had been in operation since 1988. The official laminator of the Ministry of Lamination jammed, the rollers became coated with melted candy and as the candy hardened, a gear broke. The laminator is officially broken until further notice.

Ken Montgomery, acting as Egnekn, the Minister of Lamination, was encouraging people to laminate Bugles and listen to the sound of their bugle being laminated. Instead one person wanted to laminate candy and, perhaps foolishly, Egnekn let them.

Despite the disasters, a good time was had by all and the opening for Gen.R.8 was a huge success. To learn more about Ken Montgomery visit his websites, www.MinistryofLamination.com and www.Generatorsoundart.org. To learn more about Gigantic Art Space, visit www.giganticartspace.com.
