CNNfn Censors Music Ad Due to Janet Jackson's Fallout.
The First Amendment was once again challenged today when CNNfn refused to air a 30-second commercial spot for the band Blood Red Velvet. The ad, already running on Trio, Bravo, NECN, Cox Sports Television and other networks, was apparently too much for the Financial News division of the Cable News Network (a Time Warner Company), perhaps afraid of Christian Fundamentalist outrage and still worried about the fallout from Janet Jackson's brief exposure during the Super Bowl halftime show.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 17, 2004 --The First Amendment was once again challenged today when CNNfn refused to air a 30-second commercial spot for the band Blood Red Velvet. The ad itself features no nudity, only shots of the covers of both the band's albums, which show two beautiful female forms with any breasts or genitals completely covered.
CNNfn rejected the ad without further comment. However, when contacted at his home in New Orleans the lead singer of Blood Red Velvet, Bruno U.K. Steiner, had this to say: "I refuse to believe that America is so afraid of the nipple and the human body. We are so afraid of good art and photography and we censure God's beauty. What a shame to censor a celebration of art and music."
The band's label, Delvian Records, was equally amazed at CNNfn's behavior. "It just shows the level of unnecessary fear put into otherwise sane minds at this network. When a small group of narrow-minded loudmouths can cause such a commotion about something like Janet Jackson's brief performance, it reduces everyone's freedom and quality of life. If someone doesn't want to see something, they can change the channel," said Benjamin van der Wel, President of Delvian Records. He also added that Delvian Records was very pleased and gratified by the support given to Blood Red Velvet by the other networks, the band's fans, and many supportive emails and phone calls received at the label's headquarters.
