Top 10 Ways to Make Your Automobile A Haven of Organization!

For most of us, our cars are a home away from home. So, why shouldn't we thinking about organizing them too?! Here are 10 great ways to get started.

(PRWEB) February 16, 2004 --Ok...we sure spend a lot of time thinking, reading and talking about how to better organize our homes and offices. But, what about our cars? For a lot of us, our car is a second home between chauffeuring children, commuting to work, shopping trips and other errands. This second home deserves as much...okay almost as much...attention as your main home. Here are 10 ways to get your vehicle better organized and to make it a haven" for yourself, your family and your guests!

1.   Clean it! Start with a clean surface. Make sure to clean the interior and exterior of your car thoroughly. Make a plan to keep your car cleaned up on a regular basis (e.g. car wash every Thursday, etc.).

2.   Create an Emergency Kit for your car. This kit should include the following:
a.   Rags
b.   Jumper cables
c.   A small shovel for digging out of snow when you get stuck
d.   A window scraper
e.   Jumper cables
f.   First aid kit
g.   Spare tools
h.   Emergency flares
i.   An old shower curtain for floor covering in case you need to crawl under the car
j.   A jug full of water
k.   Blanket
l.   Plastic rain poncho

3.   Use a pocketed organizer on the back of your seat for holding small items like childrens toys, maps, magazines, etc.

4.   Stock up on baby wipes for cleaning your hands

5.   Keep small plastic bags on-hand for trash. Make sure to discard the bag at least twice a week. Use waiting time in the car to dust off your dashboard.

6.   Get an education. Use your time in the car to listen to educational or self-help type tapes. With anywhere from 4-10+ of driving time in the car, you can get quite an education while driving!

7.   Keep a large sturdy crate in the trunk or back of the car to contain items like groceries and sporting equipment. This will keep these items from rolling around.

8.   Use a binder clip to hold things like film claims, dry cleaning receipts and other receipts on your visor. They will be easily accessible when you need them!

9.   Make sure your glove box is stocked with the following:
a.   Drivers manual
b.   Logbook of repairs
c.   Tire gauge
d.   Insurance card
e.   Registration
f.   Small Flashlight

10.   Create a mobile office with the following items inside:
a.   Pen
b.   Paper
c.   Highlighter
d.   Sticky notes
e.   An accordion style file for carrying permission slips and other items that need to be returned, etc.

11.   Bonus tip- Keep a reading folder in your car for long stops. This folder should contain articles, newsletters, etc. that you would like to read.
