This problem was brought home to me when my husband returned from an errand to the local hardware store. The verbal outburst was caused simply because a stubborn check failed to come out of the book cleanly, requiring the man to start all over again. Like everyone else, we too, had torn our checks simply by trying to remove them. My husband and I looked at each other, the same thought dawning in both our minds. This sparked an idea.

We found it amazing that with all the technology and changes we had seen in our lifetime, this one thing had remained basically the same since the earliest checkbooks. We decided right then that we were going to change this, and created a checkbook that would allow checks to be removed quickly and cleanly. Starting with simple pen and paper sketches, we developed prototypes in our own home, and once we were satisfied, ran off some samples and began the testing. Which means we used our new checks the same way we used the old style checks. It was clear after only a few weeks of putting them through their paces (the hip pocket, purse, floor of the car test program), they passed with flying colors.
