Rock Steady Crew, Las Vegas, Neonopolis Team Up For Cultural Celebration

City of Las Vegas and Neonopolis Team Up to Bring Urban-Art Auction and Cultural Celebration to Downtown Las Vegas Events Will Benefit Downtown Arts District, Local Food Banks February 21, 2004

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) February 18, 2004 --Las Vegas City Councilwoman Janet Moncrief and staff of Neonopolis Entertainment Complex invite the public to attend an Urban-Art Auction" from 10:00am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 21st, followed by the Yes We Can...Can" music and dance celebration from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Yes We Can... Can" will feature performances by members of the Rock Steady Crew from all over the world.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Art District Neighborhood Association. The City of Las Vegas is a partner with the Arts District for First Friday" events, presenting monthly music programs and offering free bus service to the district.

In addition to participating in the exciting Urban-Art Auction and Yes We Can... Can" dance performance, the Rock Steady Crew will be awarded the Key To The City, and February 21st will be proclaimed Rock Steady Crew Day" in Las Vegas.

Initially, members of the Rock Steady Crew approached Councilwoman Moncriefs office with an idea for a special event that would celebrate urban culture and benefit the community. We felt like we needed to do something to show our support of the Arts District and the city of Las Vegas," says Presto One, Vice President of RSCs Las Vegas Chapter.

Councilwoman Moncrief helped the crew secure a location for the events after negotiating with Neonopolis. We were glad to provide space for the auction and a stage with a sound system for the show," said Chardell Steves, Director of Marketing and Operations for Neonopolis.

The Rock Steady Crew has influenced popular culture for three decades. They are aware of their influence on youth and are committed to philanthropy, " said Councilwoman Moncrief. I thought it was worthwhile for the city to assist them in finding a location for their innovative events that will benefit the downtown Arts District."

Rock Steady Crew was established in 1977 in the Bronx, NY, and membership has spread around the world, including Tokyo and London. Members include celebrated dancers/choreographers Crazy Legs, Mr. Wiggles, Mr. Freeze, and actor/mc/poet Mos Def. In honor of the crews amazing history, FILA Sportswear and Crazy Legs will unveil their new Rock Steady" Sneaker at the MAGIC Convention, which takes place February 23-26 in Las Vegas. The retro-style shoe will be available in stores everywhere in April.

The Urban-Art Auction will feature urban-influenced painting and drawings, and will cost only $5.00 to attend. Las Vegas residents and tourists alike are invited to come and enjoy the showcase. The Yes We Can...Can" urban celebration will feature acrobatic break-dancers (b-boys and b-girls), djs, mcs, poets and live bands.
Admission to "Yes We Can...Can" is FREE with a donation of canned food and/or blankets, which will be donated to local food banks.    

Neonopolis is located at 450 Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas. It is the largest entertainment sensation in the Fremont Street Experience, complete with movie theaters, art galleries, restaurants, a bowling alley, ample parking, and much more.
