California Libertarians Will Convene to Build on 2003 Success
There would have been no recall of Governor Davis without libertarians. What will they do for an encore? Attending the 2004 Convention of the Libertarian Party of California might provide a clue.
SAN JOSE, CA (PRWEB) February 19, 2004 --The 2004 Convention of the Libertarian Party of California will be held at the newly renovated San Jose Doubletree Hotel near the San Jose Airport on March 12-14.
Libertarians were the movers and shakers behind the Recall. Many Libertarians signed the recall petition. Some libertarians collected signatures by the thousands. And even before the Libertarian Party passed a resolution in February of 2003 that made them the first party supporting the recall, libertarians, whether they were libertarian-leaning activists or founding members of the state party, were there from the very conception of this historic event. Now, in 2004, a regularly scheduled election year, Libertarians hope to take on an even more visible role in the political scene.
Featured at the Libertarian Party of California (LPC) convention will be speakers such as: Congressman Ron Paul (R, Texas), former Presidential candidate (1988); Joe Seehusen - new Executive Director of the national LP office in Washington, DC.; LP Chair Geoff Neale, now of Texas, but also a former member of the LPC.
All of the major LP presidential candidates (Gary Nolan, Michael Badnarik, and Aaron Russo) will be present and looking to earn delegates to the National Libertarian Convention to follow in May. Also looking for support will be U.S. Senate candidate, and current Orange County Superior Court Judge, James Gray whose realization that Drug Prohibition has failed led him to switch his party affiliation from Republican to Libertarian. He will address what can be done to end the mess he has witnessed firsthand and reduce drug abuse at the same time.
Other scheduled libertarian luminaries include San Diego tax fighter extraordinaire Richard Rider; TV actor Dean Cameron, who will provide the inside scoop on Hollywood; founder of Paypal, Peter Thiel; David Henderson, author of The Joy of Freedom and an associate professor of economics at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey; Vince Miller, President of ISIL (International Society of Individual Liberty); Lynette Shaw, renowned throughout the Medical Marijuana community for helping terminally ill people and for challenging the Federal government; legendary Internet Icon, and co-founder of EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), John Gilmore, who will talk about his battles with John Ashcroft.
Also: Professor Daniel Klein, Director of the Civil Society Institute at Santa Clara University will expose the roots of totalitarian societies. While Eric Garris, Web master of www.antiwar.com (and a lifetime LP member) will demonstrate successful Internet activism. And many more...
As always, libertarians holding office in California will be celebrated, congratulated, and consoled. And, as always, the gathered delegates will debate the merits of their Platform, Bylaws, and Program with that added patriotic fervor that comes in a presidential election year.
