How Would You Live Without Electricity?

Imagine waking on a frigid morning in the dead of winter to discover there is no electricity, no running water, no news broadcasts, no working phones, ... and no way to find out what happened, why, or how long it will last. In "All Kinds of Heroes", a novel by Carol Kern, that is the situation faced across an entire continent, the result of an act of cyber-terrorism by a lone zealot. The story follows a farm family in Nova Scotia, their development of a far-reaching survival strategy and the way they must deal with seven strangers who are given refuge on the farm.

Granville Ferry, Nova Scotia (PRWEB) February 20, 2004 --From electricity to computers to satellite, the whole world runs on technology, and very few know how to live without it anymore. What would happen if it all failed? How long would it be before panic sets in and absolute chaos is the order of the day? In "All Kinds of Heroes", author Carol Kern tells of one family faced with this circumstance and recounts how they live primitively and survive on a small farm. The story opens on the cattle farm of Ruth and Matt Kingsley in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. Since the terrorism attacks in 2001, Ruth has received bizarre visions that portray a cyber-terrorist attack that shuts down all electrical and communication systems across North America on the first day of 2005. Ruth does everything she possibly can to prepare, and when her visions come true the family quickly puts together a survival plan for the community that has far-reaching, astonishing results. Seven strangers with nowhere else to go are given refuge on the farm, bringing with them unresolved conflicts that must be dealt with, along with problems that arise from three generations of Kingsley's living under the same roof. "All Kinds of Heroes was written to highlight the importance of family values in our small towns and rural communities across North America, and the connection to the small family farms and small businesses that are the backbone of this continent, and which are disappearing at an alarming rate. This story of survival could not have taken place without them. To read an excerpt from the book, go to www.1stbooks.com "All Kinds of Heroes" is also available at all online bookstores.
