Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center Appoints Leonard J. Newman, M.D. Chairman and Director of Pediatrics

Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center (OLM) has appointed Leonard J. Newman, M.D., Chairman and Director of its Department of Pediatrics. The appointment was announced by Richard T. Celiberti, President and Chief Executive Officer of OLM.

Bronx, NY (PRWEB) February 20, 2004 --Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center (OLM) has appointed Leonard J. Newman, M.D., Chairman and Director of its Department of Pediatrics. The appointment was announced by Richard T. Celiberti, President and Chief Executive Officer of OLM.

We are delighted that Dr. Newman has accepted the position of Chairman and Director of Pediatrics," said Mr. Celiberti. His affiliation with New York Medical College and his expertise in practicing and teaching pediatric medicine ensures that Our Lady of Mercy will continue its reputation as a premiere teaching-community hospital that will provide the children of the Bronx with the very best in pediatric care for years to come."

Dr. Newman will continue to serve as the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at New York Medical College (NYMC), OLMs university affiliate and also continue his duties as Professor of Pediatrics at the medical college.

A Board certified physician with the American Board of Pediatrics and the Sub-Board of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Dr. Newman has an impressive array of hospital and academic appointments. He is widely published with nearly 100 book chapters, articles, abstracts and presentations to his credit.

Dr. Newmans prior hospital appointments include serving for eighteen years as the Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at New York Medical College/ Westchester County Medical Center (WCMC) and also serving as the co-director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at WCMC from 1982-86. He continues to be an attending physician at OLM and other area hospitals.

In addition to his current post as the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at NYMC, a position he has held since 1992, and his responsibilities as Professor of Pediatrics, since 1989, Dr. Newmans previous academic appointments at the Valhalla-based medical college includes serving as Associate Professor of Pediatrics from 1983-89 and Assistant Professor from 1975-83.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Dr. Newman is a graduate of Rutgers University. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College.
Dr. Newman lives with his family in Scarsdale, NewYork.
