Young Writers Scholarship Rewards Emerging Talent

Thanks to a local scholarship, undiscovered authors can concentrate on writing the next great American novel rather than on their college debts. The Amelia Book Island Festivals Young Writers Scholarship in Memory of Christa Powell Walley is dedicated to encouraging young writers in their pursuit of a literary career. The Amelia Book Island Festival will award a $1,000 college scholarship to a college student during the festivals Lunch with an Author event on Oct. 2, 2004.

AMELIA ISLAND, FL (PRWEB) February 23, 2004 ---Thanks to a local scholarship, undiscovered authors can concentrate on writing the next great American novel rather than on their college debts. The Amelia Book Island Festivals Young Writers Scholarship in Memory of Christa Powell Walley is dedicated to encouraging young writers in their pursuit of a literary career. The Amelia Book Island Festival will award a $1,000 college scholarship to a college student during the festivals Lunch with an Author event on Oct. 2, 2004.

This is the third year the Amelia Book Island Festival will award a scholarship to a student pursuing a degree in English, journalism or a writing-related major. The scholarship is available to graduate and undergraduate students that completed more than 30 undergraduate credit hours. The scholarship, named for the late Walley, honors her memory and her love for writing.

For a scholarship application, please send a self-addressed stamped envelope to: Young Writers Scholarship Committee, c/o Amelia Book Island Festival, P.O. Box 824, Amelia Island, FL 32034. Applications are also available online at www.bookisland.org or by e-mail (scholarship@bookisland.org). The application deadline is August 1, 2004.

The fourth annual Amelia Book Island Festival, a not-for-profit effort dedicated to literacy, the love and celebration of the written word and the community of writers and readers, is Oct. 1-3, 2004. It features more than 35 authors of novels, mysteries, histories, suspense thrillers, nonfiction, poetry and books for young readers. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the authors and enjoy discussions and readings featuring writers, agents, editors and publishers.
