Saving John Edward TV: The Heart of the Matter
It seems somehow appropriate as we wrap up a holiday known as THE big day to express love, people supporting the effort to return John Edward to televsion are wearing their hearts on their sleeves.
(PRWEB) February 23, 2004 --At a small "gallery-type" event Friday evening, one member of the audience took the opportunity to express her sorrow at the cancellation of Crossing Over. This was met by audible groans from those who were first hearing of the cancellation at the event. In his first public statement, Mr. Edward confirmed the show had been cancelled with a quiet nod and assured the crowd the show had been but a part of his work. He said he would be continuing to host seminars and working to reduce the waiting list for those in line for private readings, as well as concentrating on his role as a teacher. To the delight of the crowd, he stated that he would have an interest in returning to TV in a different format.
For many unable to attend a seminar, television was the venue that brought John into their homes as both a teacher and a source of comfort. To hear John Edward has interest in returning to TV is music to the ears of the nearly 6000 petition signers who have penned their heartfelt comments for television executives to read. Universal Television stopped taking the calls of the people upset over the demise of the show, but believing there is a genuine interest in quality programming, the group is reaching out to other networks. Funds raised by its members have gone towards print ads in various newspapers, and expectations are the number of petition signers will grow as word continues to get out about the cancellation. Buoyed by John's comments, a writing campaign is underway to network executives at all major networks to assure them an audience exists for John Edward, a dedicated one with an interest in quality programming. Comments from some of the petition signers say it best:
"At a time when media is confronting what constitutes obscenity and where to draw the line, it was refreshing to look at a show that showed every day people and how extraordinary and precious a life is" says Toni Josephson from New York City.
Wyn Plocher of Minnesota sums it up this way "Television is changing as a medium, new shows such as Joan of Arcadia are winning awards for bringing sprituality and God out in the open. John Edward is reality TV at its finest; real people, real issues that are difficult to deal with, presented with caring and humor. You cannot imagine how many lives John Edward has touched with his important message that love goes on forever."
Knowing Mr. Edward is willing to continue to do his work in the public venue of television, the group at SaveJohnEdwardTV.com believes at least part of their prayers have been answered. John Edward certainly made their Valentine's Day just a little bit sweeter.
