Soundbug - Turns Flat Surface into Speakers

Smaller than a computer mouse, Soundbug plugs into the standard 3.5mm headphone socket of any device. A sucker push ring attaches firmly to any hard, glossy surface such as glass, metal or MDF. An MDF desk top, MDF cupboard door, a window or even a glass-framed picture will do perfectly.

(PRWEB) February 27, 2004 --Smaller than a computer mouse, Soundbug plugs into the standard 3.5mm headphone socket of any device. A sucker push ring attaches firmly to any hard, glossy surface such as glass, metal or MDF. An MDF desk top, MDF cupboard door, a window or even a glass-framed picture will do perfectly.

It takes the signal from the audio device, and using world-first technology, effectively creates a sounding-board out of the surface to which it is attached.

A single unit can generate sound levels of up to 75 dBm peak, easily loud enough for a group of people to enjoy music together, or listen to the sound output from a laptop presentation or a camcorder video. Two Soundbugs can be linked in parallel to generate full stereo sound (from a stereo source) with a significantly increased sound output level.

FACTS

The revolutionary technology behind Soundbugs has been developed exclusively for Olympia by a team of British scientists, using a rare material called Terfenol-D. Terfenol-D was originally developed by the US military for underwater sonar applications, and permission had to be obtained from the US government for the material to be used in any other application. When stimulated by a magnetic field Terfenol-D expands and contracts at very high frequency and with dramatic force. Soundbug's unique actuator harnesses this force and transfers it to the surface to which it is attached, setting up vibrations and effectively turning that surface into a sounding board. Any hard, glossy, flat surface will do, including glass, metal or MDF.
