Telecom markets in Western Africa undergo transformation and privatisation.
(PRWEB) February 28, 2004 --Research and Markets announces the addition of the 2004 Telecoms in Africa - Western Region report to its offerings.
Benin has adopted a strategy of reform that will open the telecom market to competition, pave the way for the separation of posts and telecoms and allow for the privatisation of the PTO, while Burkina Fasos telecom sector is still undergoing transformation and the privatisation of the PTO. Although Côte dIvoires semi-privatised state telco operates a monopoly, its regulatory regime has been sufficiently liberal to encourage new operators in this sector. The national telephone system is quite well-developed by African standards but operating well below capacity.
Gambias government-owned PTO provides virtually all telecom services including cellular telephony. Modernisation of the national telecom network has led to a marked improvement in fixed-line teledensity.
This report provides information on telecoms in Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte dIvoire, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal. Each country has its own chapter and covers the Key Statistics, Market Overview, Regulatory Environment, Major Players, Infrastructure and also provides information on Fixed network Services, Public Data, Internet, Broadband, E-services, Wireless Communications and Broadcasting .
