PIXIE LAUNCHES SPRING 2004 COLLECTION - Fab Jewelry and Accessories that Embrace Contradiction
Pixie by Vertigo Design launches their Spring 2004 collection. Entirely handcrafted, designer Rena Tom fuses old-fashioned techniques with modern styling.
OAKLAND, CA (PRWEB) March 1, 2004 --What do you do as a followup to earning degrees in English and mechanical engineering, pioneering websites for companies like Banana Republic, and learning the ins and outs of the art world at a cutting-edge gallery in San Francisco? If you're Oakland, CA-based designer Rena Tom, you do a 180 and apply all of your skills to create sumptuous yet minimal jewelry that embraces contradiction and melds art, craft and design.
Pixie - Rena's alter ego from her pink-haired skater chick days - is the name of this fresh new jewelry and accessories line. Pixie's Spring 2004 collection is out now, based on the notion of jewelry as a conversation (not just a conversation piece) between the wearer and the world. In that vein, there are three different ways to communicate this spring:
HINT - handmade silver, leather and suede. Simple, sleek and easy to wear anywhere.
FLIRT - of the moment styles, lots of dangly chain and brilliant spring colors.
SASS - bold and asymmetrical, plenty of gemstones and sparkle.
All three collections involve juxtapositions of metal, suede, glass and yarn, creating riots of texture and color. Silver wire is knit and crocheted with gemstones, leather is used as an earring component, and rough gem nuggets float in organic settings. Also, many of the pieces are multi-functional - a choker can be worn on the wrist or in the hair, pendants can be worn in the front or back.
Launched just six months ago, Pixie is a hit in the SF Bay Area and has already drawn national attention in the Washington Post, exposing fashion-forward women across the country to pieces like the gem-studded Fireworks Choker and graphic design-inspired Redleaf Necklace.
