The Indian Emperor" Rises From 1665 To Appear In Modern Format
Signatures Books, a new publishing company in the Pacific Northwest, releases its first title "The Indian Emperor" by English Poet Laureate John Dryden, adapted to modern play format and edited by screenwriter/author Suzanne Alexander.
(PRWEB) March 1, 2004 --John Drydens masterful dramatic rhyme play, The Indian Emperor," has been updated to a modern format and is now in release by Signatures Books, a new publishing company located in the Pacific Northwest, U.S.A. Screenwriter/author Suzanne Alexander adapted The Indian Emperor" from a 1667 revision that Dryden completed in response to criticism of the plays original release in 1665. Ms. Alexanders adaptation contains stage directions as well as modern play formatting for readability and visualization. Other materials related to the play include: The Epistle Dedicatory," Defense Of An Essay Of Dramatic Poesy," and The Connection of the Indian Emperor to The Indian Queen," a preface originally written by John Dryden.
John Dryden was Poet Laureate of England during the Restoration Period of Charles II. He was born in August of 1631, the eldest of fourteen children. His writing talents were apparent early on: he was accepted as a Kings scholar and received a B.A. from Trinity College, Cambridge in 1654. During his lifetime, Dryden wrote over thirty works for the stage as well as penned epitaphs for those of privilege. A few of these epitaphs are included with this adaptation as they further reveal his style of verse. He died May 12, 1700 and was buried in Westminster Abbey beside Chaucer.
