Applause! new magazine covering art, benevolence, and celebrations, begins publication in Tampa Bay

The bi-monthly publication will begin with the March/April issue. It will be mailed to subscribers, select income addresses and business locations.

TAMPA, FL (PRWEB) March 3, 2004 --- Applause! a bi-monthly magazine that celebrates arts, benevolence and celebrations of all kinds throughout Tampa Bay, will begin publication with a 72-page March/April issue, publisher Diane Wood said today.

Applause! will provide insightful coverage of the Tampa Bay arts scene, but will also focus on the ways Tampa Bay people open their hearts and wallets, and how they celebrate everything from marriages to birthdays to promotions.

The idea for the magazine stemmed from the feeling that there just wasnt enough arts coverage in Tampa Bays regional publications," Wood said. There is too much of the same things -- home and fashion and food -- and I wasnt satisfied with that.    What I visualized was a magazine that would celebrate the creative spirit and the generosity of the people of Tampa Bay."

Art is found in all sorts of unexpected places, Wood said, and Applause! intends to find and showcase it.

Art isnt simply fine art or performing art," she said. Art can be found in the creative way a garden is laid out, in the way an architect designs a building in harmony with its surroundings, or in the way that flowers are arranged in a vase. Art is in a chefs creation, a childs finger painting, or in the band practicing in a neighbors garage.

Art is everywhere, and it deserves to be recognized, supported and revered. Applause! will search out art wherever it can be found, and put it on display."

Celebrations in every form will be featured, Wood said, as will charitable and philanthropic events. The magazine will also co-sponsor arts and cultural events throughout the area, including the following events that have already been scheduled:

•Sunday in the Arts - To benefit the Las Damas de Arte grants and scholarship program for creatives."
Sunday, March 14 -- University of Tampa, Scarfone/Hartley Galleries

•The Florida Masterworks Series - Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2., Stefan Sanderling, Conductor; Peter Rosel, piano.
Saturday, March 27 - Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg
Sunday, March 28 - Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater
Monday, March 29 - Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa

•Silverspoons & Sandcastles XIII - To benefit The Mayor's Beautification Program, Tampa.
Friday, May 7 -- Tampa Port Authority, Terminal #3

We define our humanness and our joy through art, through giving, and through the ways that we celebrate achievements and milestones," Wood said. Applause! will hold a mirror up to those things, and explore how those events contribute to the lives of Tampa Bays people."

Applause! will be uncluttered and cleanly designed, Wood said, and will deliver its messages through creative and lively writing and photography. Every issue will contain informative articles, columns and a detailed calendar of area events.

About 8,000 copies of the first issue are to be mailed to select residential and business addresses, while others will be distributed via subscription and at media-sponsored events. Others will be sold at local retail stores and cultural venues.

We want readers to know that every issue will have important information they can use about fundraisers, galleries, museums, workshops, or classes they can take," Wood said. We want Applause! to help non-profits sell more tickets and get more sponsors, we want to help people celebrate their achievements, and we want to acknowledge the great artistic talent that we have here."
