(PRWEB) March 5, 2004 -- The 19th Annual Good Samaritan Hospital Spring Ball will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the Hilton Woodcliff Lake, in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. Long known as the communitys premier black tie event, this years ball will feature a Polynesian Paradise" theme, and honor the Rockland Paramedic Services/Regional EMS with the Good Samaritan Hospital Medal of Honor, as well as Dr. James B. Israel, M.D., with the Sister Joseph Rita Award for Medical Excellence. Tickets to this once-a-year event are currently being sold through the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation.

The Polynesian Paradise" theme will be carried through to virtually every aspect of the evening, from decorations and cuisine, to the Grand Prize drawing in the Foundations annual raffle -- a trip for two to either Hawaii, Fiji, or Tahiti. "As people walk through our 'Polynesian Paradise, they will experience an exotic evening of Polynesian warmth and hospitality," said Janetlee Pillitteri, Event Chair. Our Committee has planned an elaborate evening to appeal to all five senses!"

Although the event has become a must attend" on the social calendar for residents of Rockland and Northern Bergen Counties, the highlight of the Spring Ball is the presentation of awards honoring community leaders.

The Rockland Paramedics/Regional EMS are a mainstay in the social and health fabric of the community. Collectively, they serve the emergency medical needs of over 300,000 people in over 25 villages and municipalities. For their service to the community, they are this years recipients of the Good Samaritan Hospital Medal of Honor.

Dr. James Israel is this years recipient of the Sister Joseph Rita Award for medical excellence. Dr. Israel has been practicing in this community for over 28 years, during which time he has made significant contributions not only to the lives of his patients, but to the Rockland healthcare community in general. The award is named after Sister Joseph Rita, a nurse and administrator at Good Samaritan Hospital, who was known as an "angel of mercy" for ministering to those in crisis.

This years honorees have demonstrated exceptional commitment and service to the community. It is our distinct honor to pay tribute to them at the Spring Ball," said Christine Maraia, Executive Vice President, Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation.

Maraia notes that the committee will also be publishing a commemorative journal, in which those whose lives have been touched by the Rockland Paramedic Services or Dr. Israel, as well as the public, can share their congratulations to the honorees.

Proceeds from this years event will help to improve patient care and safety by funding new Infusion Pumps. These critical devices provide a lifeline for patients and will enhance the existing services with state of the art technology.
