Motorola Licenses Belcarra USB Software for Use with Its Linux Smart Phones
Today's generation of smart handheld devices require sophisticated yet general purpose networking solutions that allow fast and easy synchronization with desktop utilities. USBLAN, a suite of software for OEMs selling Linux-based smart USB peripherals, will automatically assign address at both the Windows and device end of the USB link using a built-in DHCP server. In addition, USBLAN unites multiple attached USBLAN peripherals into a managed virtual Ethernet segment.
BEIJING, CHINA and VANCOUVER CANADA (PRWEB) March 8, 2004 --Motorola, a global leader in wireless communications, and Belcarra Technologies Corp announce the licensing of Belcarra's USBLAN networking solution to Motorola for use in Motorola's Java (tm)-Technology on Linux Operating System smart phones. This solution offers Ethernet-style networking over USB between desktop computers and Motorola mobile-PDA-MP3-embedded camera phones.
Belcarra USBLAN implements and manages Ethernet-style networking between the desktop machine and the smart phone, using an enhanced version of the industry standard CDC Ethernet. Bruce Balden, President of Belcarra Technologies notes "USBLAN offers far greater speed, reliability and flexibility compared to previous USB or serial based communications methods and makes it simple for phone-based applications to communicate with services on the desktop PC without using specialized tools."
Samuel LI, Product Manager of smart phone at Motorola noted that "Belcarra's USB technology has already been in smart phones for some time. So when we needed a network solution, we naturally turned to Belcarra. Belcarra's USBLAN Windows has the features that both our users and developers require to effectively use the phone and enhance it further through third-party applications."
