The Washingtons St. Patricks Day Ball serves as a celebration of the St. Patricks Day Season and Irish American Heritage Month (March). The historical basis for the event stems from General George Washingtons official proclamation of a St. Patricks Day holiday for his troops while encamped at Morristown in 1780 during the American Revolution. The black-tie event featured live music, silent auction, cocktail reception, dinner, and is open to the public.

The Irish American Cultural Institute, founded in 1962, is the countrys leading Irish American cultural organization. The IACI, with the President of Ireland as its Patron, is committed to the preservation, promotion, and exploration of Irish and Irish American culture.
