2nd Annual Black Marriage Day on Sunday,March 28th Nationwide

Black Marriage Day will be celebrated in over 40 cities nationwide on Sun., March 28th.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 8, 2004 ---The Wedded Bliss Foundation and its co-sponsor, Black Enterprise Magazine announce the celebration of the second annual Black Marriage on Sunday, March 28, 2004. Celebrating the Joy" will take place in forty plus cities around the country and will highlight the benefits of married life and offer celebrations to strengthen and promote marriage in the nations Black community. Were creating a cultural shift in the Black community to reconsider marriage and celebrate the joy that exists in spite of the pain we often experience," explained Wedded Bliss founder, Nisa Islam Muhammad.

It is a proven fact that Black married men make more money, they are greater accumulators of wealth, as well as live longer and healthier. Further, successful marriages free women from the burden of parenting and providing at the same time. It provides children with the comfort of both financial and emotional stability and marriage gives children access to the two most important people in their lives on a day-to-day basis," Ms. Muhammad said.

The Black community has suffered for years with declining marriage rates, increasing divorces and nearly 70 percent of their children being born out of wedlock, according to government figures. Black women are the most unpartnered group in the country, the US Census Bureau reports.

Marriage activists in Oakland, California, plan a three-day event that kicks off March 25 and includes workshops, special guest speakers and awards. We want to change our community with the information necessary to have good marriages," said Rev. Dion Evans, pastor of Oakland's Chosen Vessels Church.

In Chicago, Joseph Strickland is planning the Metropolitan Area Group for Igniting Civilization event. There is much to celebrate. We have people who have survived adultery, prison, financial crises, sickness, even divorce and remarriage to the same person."
