How a young girl survives hardship and denial throughout her life at home in an abusive family environment.
Chilliwack, British Columbia (PRWEB) March 10, 2004 -- Childhood is supposed to be a time of magic, happiness, and growth. However, for some children, there is only sadness and tragedy. Tara Holt had a mundane beginning, her innocence drowned out by the alcoholism that plagued her father. Her new book, In the Beginning 1949: Autobiography (now available through 1stbooks), recounts her childhood, marred by her fathers alcoholism and abuse.
In the Beginning is the story of Holts early years. She was born into a big family that was afflicted by poverty. Her life characterized by her father, who meant well for his children, but ended up retreating to the bottle. His verbal abuses terrorized the children, who werent allowed to ask questions or speak unless spoken to in fear of retribution. Those moments were usually reserved for his wife. Holt describes how his alcohol-fueled rage was taken out on her mother in the form of beatings, sometimes so brutal her mother barely survived.
Holts story tells how she and her siblings survived, enduring days of hunger, Like the poor in Africa and other starving countries", she says. They shared clothes, usually hand- me downs, and always attended church at the request of their mother, who believes that their faith in Jesus would help them survive.
A harrowing account of abuse and debilitating effects of alcoholism, In The Beginning 1949 proves that survival is a matter of will and anyone can succeed if they try.
After a rocky beginning, Holt, a small town and disabled woman, learned how to survive and succeed. She has published a number of poems; winning awards for many of them and has three awards of merit for song writing lyrics.
