ROCKVILLE, MD, March 10, 2004 -- Ariadne Genomics, Inc., today announced the release of MedScan TextMiner, high performance pipeline for automated reading of biological texts, designed for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, government organizations and universities. A web-based trial for MedScan TextMiner is available at www.ariadnegenomics.com.

MedScan TextMiner automatically processes MEDLINE abstracts, articles, and other scientific texts, extracting biological facts along with references to the original source of information. The software seamlessly integrates into corporate information systems as a component of their bioinformatics toolset.

Among other information, MedScan TextMiner extracts functional associations between proteins, cell processes and small molecules, recognizes types of regulatory mechanisms involved, and the effects of regulation. Captured data is presented as a datasheet or an XML file. MedScan runs under Windows and Linux, and works with plain text files, HTML, PDF and MS Office documents, as well as catalogs and archives.

The underlying technology for MedScan TextMiner is our proprietary Natural Language Processing, that is why the software shows unsurpassed performance in terms of speed and accuracy of data retrieval", said Dr. Nikolai Daraselia, Director of Research of Ariadne Genomics. MedScan TextMiner will save time of pharmaceutical and biology researchers, delivering data from literature to their fingertips, and allowing them to concentrate on their scientific problems."

MedScan TextMiner is a new, advanced version of MedScan component of Ariadne Genomics PathwayAssistTM pathway analysis software. Later this spring, the MedScan module of PathwayAssist will also be upgraded to the enhanced functionality.

MedScan TextMiner can process the entire 2004 release of MEDLINE in about 60 hours, and extract more then 300,000 unique functional links. A limited functionality trial version of MedScan TextMiner is available at www.ariadnegenomics.com. This web-based application demonstrates its text mining capability with PubMed, text or file samples.
