Former KUA Board Member Bob Bobroff Dies

During his tenure, the utility board approved the construction of two administrative facilities, a warehouse and distribution center, four electric substations and the Cane Island Power Park, a 1,027-acre power production facility in western Osceola County.

KISSIMMEE, Fla., (PRWEB) March 11, 2004 -- 11:30 am -- Bob Bobroff, who served ten years on the board of directors of Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA), died this morning in Kissimmee after an extended illness. Bobroff was 88.
    A resident of Kissimmee for over 40 years, Bobroff served as secretary on the KUA Board from October 1985 - September 1995. During his tenure, the utility board approved the construction of two administrative facilities, a warehouse and distribution center, four electric substations and the Cane Island Power Park, a 1,027-acre power production facility in western Osceola County.
    "Bob Bobroff has left an indelible mark on Osceola County," said KUA president and general manager Jim Welsh. "He was a crusader and a tenacious advocate for public power. He will be sorely missed."
    Before moving to Kissimmee, Bobroff owned and operated a wholesale auto parts business. Before that, he was a journalist. Initially a reporter for the Milwaukee Sentinel and Milwaukee Journal, Bobroff rose to positions of associate editor and editor of several large newspapers throughout Florida. From 1962 to 1982, he held various positions with The Orlando Sentinel.
    At his final board meeting in 1995, the KUA Board issued a proclamation that gave permanent name designation to the entrance road at the Cane Island power plant. The road is known as "Bobroff Boulevard."
    Bobroff was preceded in death by his wife, Rose. He is survived by three children.
    Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric, water, and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
