A Kidney For Kyia

Today marks the launch of the Kidney For Kyia campaign to raise funds for 19 month old baby, Kyia-Lyn McCormick, who is waiting for a kidney transplant.

(PRWEB) March 12, 2004 -- Today marks the launch of the A Kidney for Kyia" campaign which aims to raise funds for 19 months old baby, Kyia-Lyn McCormick from Thunder Bay, who is waiting for a kidney transplant.

The A Kidney for Kyia" campaign is being sponsored by Firedog Public Relations and Marketing and aims to raise funds via public donations and corporate sponsorships to support baby Kyia and her family through the long medical challenges that lay ahead.

Baby Kyia was diagnosed with End Stage Kidney Disease after being rushed into Thunder Bay Regional Hospital last Christmas. Thanks to the fast actions of the staff at the McKellar site, Kyias life was saved and once her condition was stabilized, she was taken to the Victoria Health Science Centre in London, Southern Ontario. After her arrival in London, Kyia was placed on Hemo Dialysis until her blood levels became normal and she is now on peritoneal dialysis for 12 hours a day. Doctors have informed Kyias parents, Billie-Jo and Allan McCormick that the baby will need a transplant within the next year if she is to have any chance of survival. Given that neither parent is a suitable donor, members of the family are currently being tested.

The A Kidney for Kyia" campaign will be ongoing throughout the summer with donation boxes being placed around the city, fundraising activities planned and a benefit event set for June. The family needs at least $10,000 to cover the expenses of staying with baby Kyia for her treatment in Toronto and some medical expenses. The campaign is appealing for public monetary donations as well as prize donations from local businesses for the fundraising benefit.

Baby Kyias mother, Billie-Jo has been forced to leave her job in Thunder Bay in order to be at Kyias hospital bedside in London. Her father, Allan, has remained in Thunder Bay, working several jobs and has only been able to visit his daughter once due to financial constraints.
