California Convention to Kick Off with Presidential Debate

California Libertarians attending their 2004 state convention in San Jose will want to make sure to get into town by 8PM Friday March 12.

SAN JOSE, CA (PRWEB) March 12, 2004 -- For most conventioneers, the main floor action of the 2004 Libertarian Party of California (LPC) Convention will start with a debate between presidential candidates Gary Nolan, Aaron Russo, and Michael Badnarik. The convention begins on Friday March 12 and runs through Sunday March 14. While delegates will be arriving throughout the day and some will roll up their sleeves to work on the Platform and on other committees, the fun for all attendees begins Friday evening at 8 oclock with the presidential debate. At 9, the candidates will take questions for approximately an additional half-hour.

Presidential election years bring extra energy to political party conventions and the LPC convention will be no exception, even though Californian Libertarians will have already voted in the primary ten days before the convention. Libertarians will make the final decision on whom their presidential nominee will be at a national convention in Atlanta at the end of May. Many of the delegates to the state convention will meet again to represent California libertarians as delegates to that convention. They will likely heed the recommendation from those registered libertarians who voted on March 2, but they will also carry with them their own opinions of the candidates from meeting them in person and seeing them in action in what promises to be a spirited and rousing debate.

Gary Nolan is a radio personality who took time off from his talk show to run for the presidential nomination. He won" the California March primary with a vote total that exceeded the combined total of his two fellow contenders on the ballot. His campaign website is: http://www.garynolan.com/index.shtml

Aaron Russo is a Hollywood producer with movie credits including The Rose" and "Trading Places." His campaign website is: http://www.russoforpresident.com/

Michael Badnarik is a self-described high priced computer consultant," who has worked internationally in that capacity. His campaign website is: http://www.badnarik.org/

On Sunday March 14, the candidates will each have another chance to speak before the delegation. After which, the members will let the candidates know how they did by holding a presidential straw poll.

The 2004 Convention of the Libertarian Party of California will be held at the newly renovated San Jose Doubletree Hotel near the San Jose Airport at 2050 Gateway Place, San Jose, CA 95110. The debate will be held on the Lobby Level of the convention area in the Donner Pass Room, a sub-division of the Bayshore Ballroom.
