American Diplomat and International Students Explore US-Eurasian Relations in State Department Online Event
WAITSFIELD, VT (PRWEB) March 16, 2004 --Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) students from the Republics of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of international relations while voicing their own opinions in an online forum Thursday, March 11, 2004 from 6:00 - 7:30pm ET. The topic of this particular discussion is The Rose Revolution and Democracy in the Caucasus. Leading the discussion will be Mr. Kent Logsdon, Deputy Director in the State Department's Office of Caucasus and Central Asian Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. More that 100 students living in the US for the current academic year will participate in the dialogue. The website for the event is: http://www.projectharmony.org/flexevent/index.html
FLEX students are selected through a highly competitive process and spend one year enrolled in a US high school, while living in host families throughout the country. Over 11,000 students from the former Soviet Union have participated in the State Department sponsored program. To learn more about the FLEX Program, please visit the State Department's FLEX webpage: http://exchanges.state.gov/education/citizens/students/eurasia/flex.htm
A leader in student technology programs, Project Harmony has facilitated three of these popular forums for FLEX students that are designed to enhance their experience of life in a democratic society. The online dialogues help students return to their own countries well equipped to promote democratic ideals and concepts of civil society. According to Program Coordinator Katy Pearce, "The FLEX students are exceptional individuals who have been given a unique opportunity to study in the U.S. The additional activities provided to them, such as the online event with Kent Logsdon, allow the students to expand their knowledge and interact with a representative of the American government. Other technology and community development programs offered to the students have enriched the FLEX program and added to the students' understanding of important elements of a civil society".
Project Harmony's mission is to build strong communities by fostering civic leadership, harnessing Internet technology, and facilitating cross-cultural experiential learning.
