A New Austin Showcase Gives Genuine Talent A Home At New Venue, Organizer Gives Austin The Credit.

What makes a DIY showcase stick out enough to gain interest? Talent. At the end of the festival its always about the shows you should have seen" or the band that got away" stories you hear. Thats what this years first annual KiaChia Showcase stands to offer Austin, Texas on Thursday, March 18 on 209 Pedernales, the address of Church of the Friendly Ghost. The show will feature The Damn Personals, Bleu (with his 'Get Up Choir), Nakia, and The Greek Embassy. The show begins at 5:30pm and is free to all.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) March 14, 2004 ---Nakia, whose piano driven songs have been called, pop-rockin-soul" most recently debuted his first video on the Austin Music Network (AMN) and is currently producing his first independent release. Discovering Austin during SXSW 02, Nakia is quickly becoming a name synonymous with quality. Performing at all the regular open-mic spots and now laying the groundwork to host his own special songwriter night, which he is pitching to AMN, Nakia is looking forward to this years SXSW conference and festival for many reasons.

Just one week away from being a part of the 2003 SXSW Conference, Nakia was hospitalized due to a neck injury and spent the entire week of the conference in St. Davids Hospital, just moments away from the music filled streets. It was during that hospital stay, while receiving visits from several friends in town for the conference that Nakia became determined to perform during SXSW 2004. Once he knew he wasnt going to be a part of an official showcase in 2004, Nakia called up his friend, Aware/Columbia recording artist, Bleu to join him on the bill. Then later, secured slots for The Greek Embassy, a NYC outfit, and Bostons The Damn Personals, and created an exciting night of new music.

I have to say up front that the city itself is just so much inspiration!" said Nakia. There are also a lot of amazing programs and organizations run by super hard working people. Seeing their sweat and tears makes me want to work that much harder. This is by far my best year in Austin so far and I really owe that to SIMS & Austin Music Foundation."

This year the first annual KiaChia Showcase will take place on, Thursday, March 18. New York Citys, The Greek Embassy take the stage up front, followed by Nakia, an Austinite, then, Bleu (with his 'Get Up Choir), who leaves the closing up to fellow Bostonians, The Damn Personals. The party gets started at 5:30pm and entry is free. The showcase will take place at one of Austins newest venues, Church of the Friendly Ghost, which is located at 209 Pedernales.
