Beverly Hills, CA -- March 12, 2004 -- Event producers Total Concepts Productions, announced today the addition of DreamWorks recording artist Jon B, Alexandra Bachelier (American Idol Finalist) and Impromp2 to the illustrious array of artist line-up for The Best of the West The Secret Is Out" a Clean Comedy Benefit: A Special Tribute to Linda Hopkins to be held on Thursday March 18, 2004 at The Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.
The event which will be hosted by noted comedienne Ms. Martha, and co-hosted by Clarence E. McClendon (Clarence E. McClendon Ministries), with Mother Love and Reynaldo Ray, will also feature top comedienne, the Everloving Sister Quintella Caldwell, as well as Carlos Oscar, Henry Cho, Gilbert Esquivel, Scruncho, Moe & Q, Carmelita, Paulette Maxwell, Doubl'lushus, and Melanie Camarcho to name of few. Among the invited guest are: Senator Diane Watson, Theresa Randall, together with Lou Gossett, Jr.
Guest of honor for this tribute event is Jazz great and living legend Ms. Linda Hopkins. Born in New Orleans in the mid 1920s Ms. Hopkins was the second youngest of six children of a Baptist preacher, and was singing in church as a little girl. By the age of eleven years old, she managed to talk the great Mahalia Jackson into doing a benefit concert at her father's church. Her meeting with Mrs. Jackson became the catalyst for her career, when the "Queen of Gospel" became influential in the young Ms. Hopkins becoming a member of the Southern Harp Spiritual Singers.
From that time Ms. Hopkins went down in folklore, going on to perform with Blues icon Esther Phillips, Johnny Otis, Little Richard, Maxine Weldon, Mortonette Jenkins Sammy Davis, Jr., and the likes. As well as performing in Broadway productions and musicals, which number in the thousands and even for US Presidents; Johnson, Carter and Bill Clinton. In 1972 she received a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award and later acted in a whole string of roles for stage, movie and TV, such as Lil Boy's Mother in The Education Of Sonny Carson (1974), as a singer in Roots, The Next Generation (1979), as Flossie King in the Clint Eastwood movie Honkytonk Man (1982) and as a housewife in the comic horror film Leprechaun 2 (1994). In short Ms. Hopkins is world renowned and has toured from Hawaii to London to Japan and in between.
A portion of the proceeds of this event will benefit The More Life Ahead Foundations Strategic National Awareness and Education Program.
