BOSTON, MA (PRWEB) March 15, 2004 --You walk into a salsa club in Boston and hear a loud "ĄDile Que No!" ("Tell Her No!) As you turn your head you stare in amazement at a large circle of couples dancing in unison to..." Who is that?" you ask your friend. "La Timba Loca, girl, where have you been?" she answers. Another loud call goes out and you see the couples exchanging partners furiously without missing a beat as the circle continues to turn. Arms are up in the air and back down again like a marvelous choreography of street dancers from a corner in Havana. What you have just witnessed is Rueda de Casino, Spanish for "Salsa Wheel". This exotic form of salsa was born in Cuba and on this night the "leader" is calling out the turn pattern for the twirling couples to execute next. The Boston salsa scene, long known for its fancy ballroom mambo style is giving way to this new dancing craze that is taking over floors everywhere from Miami, to New York and L.A. From Sophias to the Havana Club, everyone in Beantown is doing it. But a Rueda cant groove to any old salsa, only good hard core timba will do. And who does it better live than LA TIMBA LOCA, the most popular USA based band of this unique salsa evolution?
For the last 4 years, La Timba Loca has brought its Afro-Caribbean "timba" sound to venues such as the Hatch Memorial Shell, Ryles Jazz Club, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. SOBs and Nells have presented the band in New York City and the Sydney Opera House in Australia has also hosted the ensemble. After a recent sold out Scullers Jazz Club show in Boston, Bob Young of the Boston Herald described the band as "high-octane salsa with flash, urgency and lots of unexpected contours."
On April 15th salsa institution La Timba Loca brings their show "A La Rueda Rueda" to Bostons Regattabar, featuring the11-piece Cuban salsa extravaganzas new repertoire and live rueda by the MIT Rueda Group and Jamnastics, with shows at 7:30 and 9:30PM.
