Genesis Poets Celebrate National Poetry Month
Spoken Word Artist will gather to perfom at the Takoma Theatre in Washington, DC
Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 16, 2004 --Genesis Events, LLC -- announced today that it will host a Poetry Slam at TAKOMA THEATRE 6833 4TH Street, NW-- Washington, DC. -- April 25, 2004 --
7:30 P.M. -- 11:00 P.M. First prize $800.
Genesis Events is proud to announce a Co-Production with Takoma Theatre Arts Project (TTAP) a 501-C3 non-profit arts organization at the Historic Takoma Theatre in NW Washington, DC. Takoma Theatre was originally built in 1924 as a movie theater. It was owned and operated by Warner Brothers from 1935 until 1971, when it was purchased by William H. Wolowitz and leased to K B Theatres. In July of 1983 Milton McGinty, who removed several rows of seats and extended the stage apron to allow for live dramatic performances purchased the theater. http://www.takomatheatre.org http://www.genesispoets.com.
Charlotte Fox, President and Chief Executive Officer of Genesis Events, will host a press conference at TAKOMA THEATHER at 6 P.M. (EST) on that day to discuss Spoken Word" & Poetry, from an Urban Point of View.
The press conference and the SLAM" may contain information that is copy written by poets and musicians, which is protected under the Copyright Laws of the United States of America. To ensure that all rights are reserved, Genesis asks participants to review and be familiar with the US copyright laws and be guided by them.
Genesis Events is an Events Management company based in Rockville, MD producing Spoken Word" Events & Open Mic". Genesis has hosted Open Mic at Tropics Restaurant -- Germantown, MD. , Borders Books Music and Café -- Gaithersburg, MD. and Zanzibar on The Waterfront - Washington, DC.
Genesis Poets opened for Pebo Bryson and Masa, at the Carter Baron in Washington, DC. - Our poets participated in the Russell Simmons - Urban Music Summit, at Union Temple Baptist Church - Washington, DC.
These Events are open for poets, storytellers and those who want to express themselves, creatively. Genesis reserves the right to require that all participants RESPECT THE MIC". Charlotte Fox and Charneice Fox-Williams founded Genesis Events/Genesis Poets, to provide a venue for local poets, storytellers and oral historians.
Genesis is collaboration with Kymone Freeman founder of The Black Festival, Jarius, Conscious &, the Darker Brother, all local Spoken Word Artists. This collaboration includes numerous others who have given their time, restaurants, stores and their support, they believe in sharing in a dream.
Our purpose is to create a community of writers that will continue the historical heritage of poetry, storytelling, reading & writing. We will provide another square in the quilt of oral history that will be passed to future generations.
