Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Chooses Next Generation Web Based System to Track Radioactive and Hazardous Waste Information
HazTrack a new generation of web based software is chosen by one of the Department of Energy's largest research laboratories to replace their waste tracking system.
Lawrence Livermore CA and Portland, ME (PRWEB) March 18, 2004
Faced with increasing challenges imposed by a new mixed (nuclear and hazardous) waste treatment facility, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) embarked on a yearlong process of finding and implementing a new system to replace its existing waste tracking software developed over 10 years ago. After a review of several applications, including the Integrated Waste Tracking System (IWTS) system developed by and in use at Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL)), LLNL decided to implement HazTrack®.
HazTrack® represents a new generation of web based business applications that are replacing client-server software that has been so prevalent for the last 15 years. It is widely believed that the frameworks of these applications, such as the model view controller (MVC) framework for HazTrack®, will be at the core of software technology in the twenty-first century. MVC applications can be adapted more than 10 times faster to changes in business and technical requirements than applications built using hard coding techniques (client server models).
John Collins of LLNL said "The HazTrack Team has proven to be a great partner in helping to move the LLNL from its existing information structure to one that not only supports current operations, but has the ability to support future operations as well. We would have spent significantly more money if we had attempted to build a new system internally."
HazTrack is also in the process being implemented at several other Fortune 500 corporation facilities including Boeings Wichita Plant where the system is configured with a web server for handheld units.
Founded in 1999 HazTrack® is the only commercially available web based application that supports complete hazardous and radioactive waste information tracking requirements. HazTrack® is built on open J2EE standards which allow our customers to quickly and easily integrate their own business functionality into the application. HazTrack, LLC is based in Portland, ME and also has offices in Livermore, CA, Overland Park, KS and Chennai, India.
