Mrs.America Representative Fighting for Minority Health
Mrs. America Representative is fighting in Pennsylvania for equality in minority health standards, to stop discrimination and to empower minorities by education outreach.
(PRWEB) March 18, 2004 --Michele Paiva, a regional Mrs. America Representative is fighting hard to educate, empower and enhance, the plight of the minority individual in the health care system in the United States.
Minorities, regardless of age, income, particular race or access to health resources are in fact, often discriminated against. Often times, when this issue is brought up, the health and medical fields simply yawn at the issue at hand - to create equality.
Paiva states, "The truth is, if you look at statistics, you will see that there are disparities in mortality rates, incidence rates and treatments for certain illnesses."
After much research, Paiva has found that it [the medical and health fields] are not immune from racism and discrimination. It is an open book for all to see, that the social factors of the these systems have shaped this society, and it has been an injustice.
Paiva states, "The problem of racial issues in health care is the key civil rights issue of today. It is something we have to reach out to not only minorities to stand up for and empower themselves, but stand up and be strong, to be heard." Paiva continued, "We have to have outreach if we want our society to have inclusion and health for all."
"Being a part of the Mrs. America Pageant is a great avenue for a woman like me, who has a message to bring out to the public. I know when I talk about this, people can empathize and do something about it, together with me. The Mrs. America Pageant was built upon a diverse group of women, and this group will continue to be a strong voice for America."
