Full Sail Student Project Selected For 2004 Independent Games Festival
Full Sail Game Design students have their student project acccepted into the prestigious Independent Games Festival. This marks the third consecutive year that a Full Sail student project has been accepted into the festival.
(PRWEB) March 19, 2004 --"Fatal Traction" one of the latest student projects from Full Sail Real World Educations Game Design & Development Program, was recently chosen to be included in the 2004 Independent Games Festival (IGF). This marks the third consecutive year that a Full Sail student produced game has been featured at IGF.
The Independent Games Festival was established in 1998 as a way to showcase the latest and most innovative software developed outside the professional gaming industry. Part of the festivals focus is on up and coming game designers currently training at media arts schools, represented by the Student Showcase portion of IGF. "Fatal Traction" is one of ten games that will be on display at the Student Showcase this year, with the finalists chosen from a group of over fifty submissions.
"Fatal Traction" is a third-person vehicular combat game that allows players to take control of a heavily armed off-road instrument of destruction. The game takes place in a variety of outdoor terrain, including dunes, rolling hills, flat plains, mountains, ponds, lagoons, and beaches. The player pilots their own vehicle in combat against AI-controlled opponents.
The Full Sail student team was comprised of James Dolan, Joe Moore, Justin Rote, John Sahas, and Mark Wojtowicz, and had only three months to develop Fatal Traction. The time restraints students must adhere to make the success of this project especially rewarding," says Rob Catto, Program Director for Game Design & Development. People in the industry are just amazed that we can produce high quality titles like Fatal Traction in such a short period of time. For the Independent Games Festival, the games are supposed to be innovative, fun and technically challenging and I think Fatal Traction hit the mark on all three counts. This team obviously worked really hard and had a commitment to excellence right from the start."
Full Sails Game Design & Development staff takes great pride in the recent news. When students get this kind of intense and comprehensive training," Catto says, you see the result in the quality of games they produce -- these are good games that are created entirely by students, from concept to completion."
