The first quarter of 2004 was filled with local to national media exposure for Clarke:
• Double Exposure - News anchor and socialite Michelle Miller Morial the wife of Marc Morial, former mayor of New Orleans and current president of the National Urban League was cited at a high society fundraising event by the New York Times Style section and Town & Country Magazine wearing none other than Harold Clarke. Clarke also designed Morials bridal gown the image of which appeared in publications from Ebony & Jet Magazine to Town & Country.
• Harold Clarke Featured in The Fashion of Celebration - Video Fashion News, a program series that has been produced continuously since 1976 and stars the worlds greatest designers, supermodels, celebrities, rising stars, beauty makers, and fashion luminaries from the famous to the trend setters on the street. The magazine-format series and is featured weekly on both the E! Entertainment Network and the Style Network in the United States, and airs in 40 other countries around the world. In the Video Fashion News program The Fashion of Celebration, Harold Clarke is featured on location at his French Quarter atelier as the designer of a gown created for the New Orleans Mardi Gras Queen of the Crew of Cork!
• The Louisiana State Museum adds to their Harold Clarke collection - The Pontabla gown a $25,000 silk and lace gown designed for the New Orleans Opera Association's world premiere of "Pontalba" October 2, 2003 by Harold Clarke, for the closing scene in which New Orleanians celebrate her gift of the landmark Pontalba buildings facing the city's Jackson Square has been donated to the Louisiana State Museum. Clarke appreciates the magnitude of the design project, and officially handed over the gown to the museum on February 18th during the Mardi Gras season. Wayne Phillips, Curator of Costumes & Textiles, who has the previously donated bridal gown of New Orleans former first lady Michelle Miller Morial, happily added another Harold Clarke gown to his permanent collection. Video Fashion News was in attendance to document this historic event.
Clarke's couturier practice tends to be high fashion, he says, "very over the top", and designing the gown for the lead in an opera world premiere was a welcome and unusual opportunity. "It takes some soul-searching on the designer's part. To me it's a big deal, doing something of this magnitude. Not everybody gets this opportunity to design something for the opera and the Louisiana Purchase commemoration. This is history and to be tied into that is going to be great for my children and grandchildren."
• Red Carpet Debut - In previous years Harold Clarkes designs have appeared during various awards ceremonies like the NAACP Image Awards and the Trumpet Awards. This years first quarter jumpstarts exposure on a new level for Harold Clarke with two formal ensembles on the red carpet at the Academy Awards designed for Dawn Logsdon nominated for Best Documentary and her guest as they all made their Red Carpet début. Harold Clarke also made his début at The Golden Globe Awards with 20th Century Fox executive and client Rachel Tobias.
• Its Official - Harold Clarke was the Official Fashion Designer of the 2004 (6th) Le Prix International Film Star Awards held on March 28, 2004 at the historic Orpheum Theater in New Orleans. This high profile celebrity awards show was previously held during the Cannes International Film Festival and at Los Angeles 20th Century Fox Film Studios. This years event was taped live for later TV broadcast to 83% of the United States by TBTN as a Tribute to 100 Years of Filmmaking. As the Official Designer for the prestigious event Harold Clarke gowns were worn on the red carpet and on stage. $2,500 gift certificates toward the purchase of a custom designed Harold Clarke gown were in 30 gift baskets presented to celebrity presenters and award winners. This event is the first of its kind in New Orleans and served as a Tribute to 100 years of Filmmaking in Louisiana, fast becoming the Hollywood South" Mr. Clarke as promised brought Hollywood high fashion glamour and luxury to New Orleans very first high profile red carpet awards show event.
